Picture of Birds, Ruffled FeathersWhen it comes to bird photography, the closer that you can get to the subject, the more feather detail in your picture. Birds are such a fun and challenging subject to photograph. They tend to be moving constantly - flying, eating, fighting with one another. In the photo below the two birds were relaxing on a warm day in a thin pool of water but even so, they weren't totally still. They were busy ruffling their feathers. The slightest movement can result in a blurred shot. When birds are the main subject feather detail is vital, as are the eyes of the subject. When the eyes aren't visible the photo looks 'off'. And wacky birds tend to do weird things with their eyes so shooting consecutive shots are wise in some situations as you may have a better keeper in the bunch than if you'd only taken one or two shots. This was taken with the Oly E-620 at 1/160s at ISO 320, F4 and hand-held.
